District 9 Doing It Right With D-9.com

Author: In the past weeks i have seen previews for the movie District 9. Now the movie itself seems kind of weird but what intrigued me the most was the website they were using to promote the movie, D-9.com. In all honesty this domain fits PERFECTLY with the type of campaign they are doing on screen and off screen.

I do not visit very many sites for movies unless i am extremely interested in the movie or the domain name, like this one, is a good one or interesting one. The reason i say this is a great domain name for the movie has to do with two things:
1) The domain is short and memorable, perfect for this type of movie.
2) This movie is a SiFi Action Military type movie so something like D-9 is perfect especially since it represents the title of the movie.
Then on top of that they went with the .com which is the right move to make. I have watched a couple of trailers on the movie and most of them use the D-9.com but i have also seen then have the domain name similar to all of the rest of movies out there like District9Movie.com, not sure if that is the right one.
Another thing i like about this domain is the actual site and ad campaign they put behind it. The site itself is extremely interactive with great graphics, movies, and even a game. This has made me to actually want to see the movie just because of the site and the background on the movie i got from the site.
Anyone else see something similar to this?

The newest movie that comes to mind for me is a movie called Gentleman Broncos. It’s a quirky comedy from the director of Napoleon Dynamite about the lamest science fiction writer in the world played by Jemaine Clements from the Flight of the Conchords. It hasn’t come out yet but they have this hilarious website named after the lead character at http://www.RonaldChevalier.com. That’s the best example I can come up with right now.
